the wedding dress
‘the wedding dress’ is a large body of work about the history and rituals surrounding the wedding dress in British culture. It began as an interest in the enduring power of the symbolism and the way that this is interpreted for different generations. Research, drawings, frottage, collage and photography developed in the studio and in residencies. The work was progressed as an MA thesis in the Cultural Studies department of the University of Birmingham and further expanded into an exhibition for Walsall Museum and Art Gallery.
During this period many of the education workshops generated strong opinions and artworks from the participants including Mary Robert’s ‘leaf dress’ at Warwickshire’s professional development sessions for teachers.
