Drawing, painting, collage and other two dimensional ways of working have always been central to Jane’s practice. As a committed keeper of sketchbooks since a student, she uses them to accumulate observational drawings, concept sketches, idea development, inspiring images and designs for artworks and environments. She makes marks with her hands, pencils, pens, feathers, brushes and other implements using materials appropriate to the subject matter including bitumen, paints, crayons and graphite. In her own studio practice she uses drawing to develop inspiration into ideas, often growing a slight tentative sketch into a finished artwork. On commissioned collaborative projects her initial concept sketches are progressed through detailed design drawings then translated into Computer Aided Design construction drawings by others.
